Police said the woman's name would not be released until they had notified her relatives.

Police responded to the report of an assault about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday at JR's Truck stop, 1901 E Reno Ave.

The first officers to arrive on the scene noticed a small green sport utility vehicle leaving the parking lot, driving erratically, Capt. Dexter Nelson said.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and were led on a short chase north on Martin Luther King Avenue. The driver struck a few curbs and lost control in the 1800 block, Nelson said.

The vehicle hit a brick wall at an unoccupied building at NE 18 and Martin Luther King Avenue. The woman driving the vehicle died at the scene, Nelson said.

Officers at the truck stop found witnesses physically restraining Nugent, Nelson said.

The robbery victim is a cross-country truck driver who was struck several times with a rubber mallet, but his injuries were believed minor, Nelson said.
