HINTON — Investigators think an Edmond woman who died Wednesday after falling off a bridge on Interstate 40 was trying to avoid being hit by a tractor trailer, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Sheryl Billie Mucker, 50, fell over a barrier on the side of the bridge and drowned in 4 feet of water, trooper Betsy Randolph said.

Randolph said Mucker was driving from Clinton, where she had been taking care of her elderly father, to her Edmond home when she ran over something on I-40 northeast of Hinton.

The debris flattened two of her car tires.

Two truckers saw Mucker get out of her car and run toward the shoulder, troopers said.

The investigator said she probably thought she was going to be hit by one of the trucks and was trying to get out of the way.

She fell off the bridge and into a shallow portion of the Canadian River.

When troopers arrived, Mucker's car was still in drive with its hazard lights on, Randolph said.
