Janet Hume was found dead in her home, 11000 S Bryant Ave., Wednesday after the standoff with police.

Family members asked police Friday to check on the welfare of Janet Hume and told police she lived with her 52-year-old mentally ill son.

Gerald Hume refused to let police in the house despite repeated attempts over the next few days, police said.

On Tuesday, patrol officers, homicide detectives, and members of the tactical unit and the bomb squad went to the residence to execute a search warrant.

Negotiators spoke to the son for more than 11 hours before police forced entry about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
