1:20 a.m. NORMAN — A woman shot late Tuesday was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.
Police did not name the victim or list her condition in a news release sent out shortly after the incident. She is described only as an “adult female” in the report.
The woman was found in the driver's seat of a pickup with an “apparent” gunshot wound, Norman police Lt. Blake Green said.
The shooting scene, in an older neighborhood in central Norman near the intersection of Flood Avenue and Robinson Street, is just three blocks southeast of where 57-year-old Mary Ellyn Benavidez was shot to death last month.
Dustin Dale Allen, 20, was charged with murder Sept. 19 in Cleveland County District Court in connection with Benavidez's death.
Neighbors said Benavidez's house, where she lived with her adult son, was a drug house with “high traffic.” Those who live nearby also said the house was under surveillance before the woman's death and that officers had stopped by the residence the day before the slaying.
Allen said he went to Benavidez's house to confront her son, who wasn't there. Prosecutors say he confessed to killing the woman. Benavidez is the first homicide victim in Norman this year, police said.
