NORMAN — The injury bug has already bitten the 2013 Oklahoma women’s basketball team.
At last night’s intrasquad scrimmage, senior point guard Morgan Hook dislocated her thumb — an injury that isn’t expected to cause her to miss much time — and redshirt freshman guard Maddie Manning suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury.
Manning started a couple games early last season as a true freshman before tearing her ACL. Her latest injury — which remains undiagnosed at this point — affected her other knee.
Manning, from Ankeny, Iowa, was able to redshirt last season, and if this injury ends her 2013 season, she would likely be granted a second redshirt year.
Hook, from Lowell, Ark., has started 69 games the last two seasons, and is averaging 9.2 points and 3.3 assists for her career.
The Sooners suffered several season-ending injuries last season. So many, in fact, that coach Sherri Coale had to borrow a couple OU volleyballers to have 10 players on her roster.
Oklahoma still reached the Sweet 16, though, where it lost to Tennessee.
