MOORELAND — A Mooreland man was shot and killed by Woodward County a sheriff's deputy, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported Sunday.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, deputies arrived at the home of Jason Hopkins, 38, who was inside with a Mooreland police officer. The officer, who had been dispatched on a medical call for Hopkins, said the man was refusing to come out of the house and was armed with a knife, OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.
A deputy tried to subdue Hopkins with a stun gun — which was ineffective — and officers said Hopkins lunged at one of them with a knife and was shot, she said.
Hopkins died at OU Medical Center, Brown said. The state medical examiner's office will determine cause of death and OSBI will investigate the shooting and turn information over to the district attorney's office for review.
