Woodward man drowns in Fort Supply Lake

Johnathan T. Loftis, 18, was swimming in choppy waters at Fort Supply Lake near Coors Island when he drowned, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

WOODWARD — An 18-year-old man swimming in Fort Supply Lake in Woodward County drowned Tuesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Johnathan T. Loftis, of Woodward, was swimming from a boat ramp about 150 yards north of Coors Island with four other people when he began to struggle in the windy, choppy waters, troopers said.

After Loftis went under, two swimmers tried to keep him afloat but were unsuccessful. He did not resurface.

His body was recovered in 5 feet of water, troopers said.
