The military strike team “G.I. Joe” returned to theaters this week with the movie “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” starring Channing Tatum, Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Bruce Willis, among others. IDW Publishing has multiple titles available that tie into the G.I. Joe experience, based on the action figures from Hasbro.

G.I. Joe

The main title got a new issue No. 1 in February, as the G.I. Joe team is forced to go public. Fred Van Lente (“The Incredible Hercules”) and Steve Kurth (“Ultimate Iron Man”) are the creative team. Two issues of the new series are out so far.

“As a longtime G.I. Joe fan, it's very exciting to be able to launch the series in a bold new direction, with a new status quo that develops organically from events in the current ongoing series,” said Van Lente in a news release.

G.I. Joe: Special Missions

The spinoff title features the undercover missions of the G.I. Joe team. It's written by Chuck Dixon (“Batman”) and drawn by Paul Gulacy (“Master of Kung-Fu”).

The first storyline features Scarlett putting together a team to do battle with the Baroness. The first issue was released March 20.

“‘Special Missions' was always my favorite of all the original, classic G.I. Joe comics,” Dixon said in a news release. “Larry Hama and Herb Trimpe did an amazing comic as well as monthly tutorials on comic book storytelling.”
