Word Balloons: SoonerCon kicks off this weekend
There's a strong Texas flavor in this year's SoonerCon, which is using the tag line "2010: A Bubba Odyssey” to promote the show.
The convention runs today through Sunday. Joe R. Lansdale, author of "Bubba Ho-Tep” and "Vanilla Ride” is the guest of honor at this weekend's show. Lansdale has written more than 30 books and has won 16 Bram Stoker Awards, which honor superior achievement in horror writing. Lansdale, born and raised in the Lone Star State, talks about the myth of Texas at his website, joerlansdale.com. "Texas is so wrapped up in myth and legend, it's hard to know what the state and its people are really about,” Lansdale said. "Real Texans, raised on these myths and legends, sometimes become legends themselves. The bottom line is, Texas and its people are pretty much what most people mean when they use the broader term 'America.'” In the 1990s, Lansdale wrote three "Jonah Hex” miniseries for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The Western-horror hybrid series were drawn by Tim Truman. The film "Jonah Hex,” starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, will open June 18.White House Program Cuts Up to $1k off Monthly Payments!
