Work Force Update: Oklahoma job training groups merge

The Cleveland County Workforce Investment Board recently merged with its central Oklahoma peer, providing job training and placement services to job seekers in Oklahoma, Canadian and Logan counties.

The two boards are now operating under the name Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board after county commissioners in all four counties and Gov. Brad Henry agreed to the merger as a one-year pilot initiative.

COWIB members will continue to set strategy for employee recruitment and skills training based on current and forecasted local market needs.

The Cleveland County Career Center will continue to provide walk-up and online services to job seekers from its Norman location at 1183 E Main.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission will take over the responsibilities of fiscal agent for the expanded board, and Eddie Foreman will continue as Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board’s chief executive officer. For more information, go to cowib.org or call 622-2031.
