Burleson writes in a direct message on Twitter to The Associated Press that he redid his deal because he wants to retire with the Lions and to do his part to bring more athletes to the team.

The 10-year-veteran also restructured his contract nearly a year ago.

Burleson was limited to six games last season because he broke his right leg. He had a career-high 73 receptions in 2011, his second year with the Lions. Burleson has 418 career catches for 5,169 yards and 38 touchdowns with Minnesota, which drafted him out of Nevada, Seattle and Detroit.
