CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Two Thunder Basin Coal Co. mines are being recognized for their reclamation work by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.

The agency says the Coal Creek and Black Thunder Mines have been selected to receive the 2014 State of Wyoming Reclamation Award.

The award recognizes successful avian protection and mitigation practices on reclaimed lands.

DEQ Land Quality Division Permit Coordinator Stacy Page says the Black Thunder and Coal Creek personnel take pride in the amount of wildlife they have on their mine sites.

Page says their work includes creating wildlife habitat with diverse vegetation, nesting platforms and amenities for the water fowl, moving nests from dangerous locations and grounding live electric wires that birds use for perches.
