A donation from an Oklahoma City family is enabling the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City to open a 12th location in the metro area.
The Dan Ward family has donated a 46,500-square-foot building on the southwest corner of Northwest Expressway and Rockwell Avenue.
Currently under renovation, the building is expected to open in January. It will include a state-of-the-art fitness center, gym, swimming pool, exercise studios, child care services and a family center.
“We are thrilled with the fact that this donation will allow us to have a YMCA that will provide services in an area of Oklahoma City we have always felt was underserved and stood to benefit greatly by having its own neighborhood YMCA,” Mike Grady, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, said in a statement. “I have no doubt this YMCA will change lives and positively impact the health and wellness of our community.”
Former athletic club
The building, formerly leased to the Aspen Athletic Club, is in the Rockwell Plaza shopping center.
