Young golfers get into swing of things on Norman course

Westwood Golf Course in Norman offered a free junior golf academy Tuesday and Wednesday for ages 6 to 17.

Youths ages 6 to 17 got a free introduction to golf at Westwood Golf Course’s junior golf academy this week.

Golf pros and volunteers worked with the young people Tuesday and Wednesday, covering the fundamentals of the game and the mechanics of a full swing.

For more in-depth instruction, Westwood is offering a junior golf academy for youths ages 8 to 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and June 24; and July 1, 15, 22 and 23. The academy will be taught by professional golfers and will include lessons on rules, etiquette, putting, chipping, irons and woods. There will be two play days, concluding with a pizza party and prizes.
