'Young Justice' Destiny Calling Season 2, Part 1 DVD review
‘Young Justice: Destiny Calling' Season 2, Part 1
The “Young Justice” cartoon skipped ahead five years in season 2, meaning the young teens of the first season are now more mature. The lineup of the team has changed somewhat, as well.
The former Robin has become Nightwing, who leads the team. Superboy, Martian Girl and Kid Flash remain from the previous lineup, but Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, Batgirl and Beast Boy are now also members. The team still has a Robin, but now it's the younger Tim Drake. Impulse and La'Gaan also become featured players.
An alien invasion is under way as the season begins, with several Justice League members unable to account for 16 hours of time in their pasts. An organization called “The Light,” made up of several villainous heavy hitters, have formed an alliance with a group of aliens, putting the Justice League on their heels. DC Comics space characters Adam Strange and Lobo play parts in this season, as well.
Aqualad (voiced by Khary Payton) had been the leader of Young Justice, which the members call simply “the team.” However, in season 2, Aqualad has apparently switched sides, working with his father Black Manta against the Justice League.
The fate of Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy is revealed, leading to a tense confrontation with Lex Luthor in the episode “Satisfaction.”
The first 10 episodes of season two of “Young Justice” are included.
Special features include three bonus episodes of “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” co-starring the Blue Beetle: “Rise of the Blue Beetle,” “Fall of the Blue Beetle” and “Revenge of the Reach.”
