ENID — Bill Young isn’t the type to be boastful or arrogant, but Oklahoma State’s first-year defensive coordinator is confident.

And he’s not hesitating to share that confidence with Cowboy fans.

Young, along with new Cowboy quarterbacks coach Robert Matthews and second-year men’s basketball coach Travis Ford, spoke to a packed house at the Cherokee Strip Convention Center Monday night as part of the OSU fund-raising caravan tour around the state where he is speaking highly of the expectations he has for his new defense, which has been mired in medicority during head coach Mike Gundy’s tenure.

"I learned a long time ago that the less you say, the less you have to take back,” the 62-year-old Young said. "But we are gonna be good.

"We feel like, defensively, we’re gonna be very, very good. We’re trying to make sure our players understand that we’re gonna be a great defensive football team.”
