You’re welcome: Vote shows detainees have U.S. spot to land

We don’t know where on U.S. soil the Obama administration plans to send Guantanamo detainees slated for criminal trials, but there are 224 candidate congressional districts after a vote last week in the House of Representatives.
That’s how many House members voted against a bid to block the transfer of detainees to the
United States. All five members of Oklahoma’s delegation supported a ban on bringing Guantanamo inmates here.
Obviously, there are plenty of representatives who think bringing detainees to the U.S. is acceptable — even though the perfect facility for holding and prosecuting them already exists at the U.S. base in
Cuba.
The early leaders for receiving Gitmo detainees are the districts of Reps.
Dan Maffei, D-N.Y., and
Baron Hill, D-Ind. Both were quoted by
The Associated Press as saying that bringing the likes of
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to their backyards is no biggie.
"It’s a non-issue, inside the Beltway stuff,” Maffei told AP. "People care about jobs, the economy, health care.” Hill said no one has asked him about Guantanamo, and he doesn’t fear his vote as a campaign issue.
Splendid! The rest of America thanks Maffei and Hill for stepping up to the plate. Though public opinion has shown Americans oppose bringing detainees to their states by about 4-1, it’s possible folks think differently in the places Maffei and Hill call home.
These men should hold some town hall meetings first, to make sure they’re in tune with their constituents. Could be the best show since this summer’s town halls on health care.

I only asked if they all Republicans?
I don't know what party, broker Malcolm Berko is. He sure blamed them and still does if you read his column in the Sunday paper each week.
I don't give Bush credit for anything except getting Obama elected.
Of course McCain didn't help himself when he chose a comedian for his running mate.
Bush never inherited 2 wars or an economy on the brink of a Great Depression and you know it!

Remember the inauguration crowd Bert!

"Unalienable" means without border, not dependent on a country. We don't grant them the rights, they have them already.
Your harmonica plays one note.
L, Americans have constitutional rights. Are you saying we should grant those rights to every person in the world?

I still say the USA can do a better job of detaining the accused stateside than anyone, anywhere.
