Youths participating in a local youth program are sharing their musical talents and love for God.

A gospel choir called The Vision was formed at the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County earlier this summer.

At a choir practice on Tuesday, the choir members sang a rousing version of gospel recording artist Kirk Franklin's “Melodies From Heaven,” using their hands and feet to punctuate their words:

“Melodies from heaven, rain down on me, rain down on me,” the youths sang.

Kristin Minnis and LaRissa Conn, the club staff members who formed the choir, grinned as the young people showed their enthusiasm.

The pair said they lead a similar group at the club several years ago. They said they asked young people visiting the club's headquarters, 3535 N Western, this summer if they would like to form a similar choir and the youths seemed interested.

Minnis said about five youths attended the choir's first practice but the musical group quickly swelled to about 35 members.

“We just started over the summer, and it has really grown,” Minnis said.

She said some of the young people who visit the center often come for play time and may not have an opportunity to show their love for the Lord.
