Yukon couple convicted of child abuse

A Canadian County jury has recommended Sonja Kluth spend the rest of her life in prison. John and Sonja Kluth forced their adopted children to eat pet food and kept them in dog crates, according to testimony.

EL RENO — A Canadian County jury recommended a Yukon mother spend the rest of her life in prison after hearing testimony she routinely beat and stabbed her adopted son and forced him to live in a dog crate in an underground storm cellar and eat dog food, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

John and Sonja Kluth, of Yukon, were found guilty of child abuse and child neglect of their three adopted children, ages 16, 13 and 10. The verdict came in about 9:45 p.m. Monday.
