A Yukon teenager who was pulled from Lake Thunderbird Sunday evening after going under and failing to resurface has died, officials said.

Woodrow Ethan Swecker, 17, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, said Jansen Idlett with the Marine Enforcement Division of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The teenager was swimming in about six feet of water about 5:30 p.m. Sunday off the shore at Party Cove when he went under and didn’t resurface.

Other people pulled the teenager from the water and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation until emergency crews arrived and took over. He was taken to Norman Regional Hospital, then transferred to Children’s Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The victim had been swimming toward a boat that was adrift in the water when he went under, witnesses said.
