Zac improves in 2nd start
Sophomore accounts for 327 yards, 4 TDs in victory over Texas Tech
STILLWATER — Zac Robinson jogged off the field Saturday and was greeted with a squeeze from an adoring Oklahoma State pom girl.
Reward for the winning Cowboys quarterback? Nah, lucky dog, it was his girlfriend, Jackie Shoup.
Still, it was that kind of afternoon for Robinson, who in his second start led OSU to a critical 49-45 win over Texas Tech in the Big 12 opener for both teams.
Coaches often claim that players make major improvement from the first start to the next. Cowboys offensive coordinator Larry Fedora said it was that way for Robinson, who took over the quarterback role from Bobby Reid a week earlier.
"Zac improved a bunch,” Fedora said. "Even though Zac had played in some big games, it was still his first game to start last week. Not that he played bad, but he didn't do anything out of the ordinary you should do to help us win.”
Worse, the Cowboys suffered what could have been a crippling 41-23 loss at Troy.
Against Tech, Robinson accounted for 327 total yards and four touchdowns — two passing and two rushing.
"It definitely felt a lot different,” said Robinson.
Looked different, too.
The sophomore pumped life into the quarterback run game, gaining 116 yards on 13 carries.
