Zack Stortini sees positives in demotion to Barons

Power forward will provide OKC with a physical presence

It's been awhile since Zack Stortini had been in an American Hockey League locker room before he joined the Oklahoma City Barons before Friday's game against Peoria.

The last time he played in the AHL, or any level other than the NHL, at all was a four-game stint with Springfield in 2007-08.

But after finishing his first game with the Barons, Stortini was taking the demotion in stride.

He spoke of wanting to fit in well with his teammates, the increased playing time he will get with the Barons, the goal of proving himself again to the Edmonton Oilers.

The 25-year-old from Ontario has played for only one NHL organization since the Oilers drafted him in the third round in 2003.

The power forward has played 256 games over five seasons in Edmonton. But with call-ups from the Barons, such as Linus Omark and Liam Reddox, playing so well on the front line, one of the veterans faced demotion. And once Jordan Eberle was ready to return to the Oilers after an injury, Stortini was the odd man out.
