Non-runners and couch potatoes across the metro finally have an event to call their own with City Care’s first Zero K Run event, set for 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Crystal Lake at Interstate 40 and MacArthur.

“We expect this to be a kind of quirky event that will be a lot of fun for all the participants and raise money for an organization that helps so many people in need in the Oklahoma City area,” said Pattye Moore, City Care board member and event organizer. “It’s all of the fun with none of the run, and you still get a race T-shirt and a medal.”

The event also includes an optional 5K Trail Run around Crystal Lake and offers a festival-like setting with food trucks, a beer garden, live music and a free kids zone.

Registration for the Zero K and the 5K Trail Run is open at www.zerokokc.com.

Participants can register individually or coordinate teams. The individual or team captain raising the most money through race sponsorships will take home the grand prize, a name-brand recliner courtesy of Mathis Brothers. Participants also can compete for best costume, most creative team name and hourly door prizes.
