4 groups of Oklahoma soldiers return today
Four groups of soldiers with the Oklahoma National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade returned home today. About 520 soldiers were honored at Southern Nazarene University's Sawyer Center in Bethany.
Two groups arrived this morning and two groups arrived this afternoon at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base, said Maj. Mike Eckart, a spokesman for the Guard.
One welcome home ceremony was held this morning at the Sawyer Center. Two welcome home ceremonies were held this afternoon.
The soldiers are part of about 2,600 troops with the 45th who were mobilized about a year ago and spent about nine months in Iraq.
Flights of soldiers are expected to continue through at least Oct. 21 with ceremonies at Southern Nazarene for each group as they arrive, said retired Col. Pat Scully, a spokesman for the Guard.
The soldiers began arriving at Fort Bliss, Texas, over the weekend where they receive several days of soldier readiness out-processing before flying back to Oklahoma.
