A cold front will bring with it a chance for more freezing rain and possibly some snow Wednesday through the latter part of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
The front will arrive in northern Oklahoma late tonight before reaching central counties early Wednesday and the Red River by early Wednesday afternoon.
Highs on Wednesday across northern parts of the state will be about 30 degrees lower than today's, forecasters said.
Central and northern Oklahoma faces a good chance of precipitation Wednesday night through Thursday night in the form of rain with the possibility of freezing rain or sleet.
Highs in Oklahoma City will be close to freezing through Thursday while highs for northern Oklahoma are expected to drop into the 20s.
Most of the state will see only a slight chance of precipitation on Wednesday falling as drizzle or freezing drizzle. Chances will increase to 50 percent for much of the state Wednesday night into Thursday with precipitation falling as rain with some sleet in the northeast around Tulsa, freezing rain or sleet in the northwest around Woodward, freezing rain southwest near Altus and as mostly rain southeast near Atoka.
The temperature in Oklahoma City at 5 p.m. today was 62 degrees.
In Tulsa, the temperature was 62 degrees.
Burn ban modified
Gov. Brad Henry on Monday lifted the state's burn ban for all but Cimarron and Texas counties in the Panhandle.
The governor's office announced the decision after reviewing precipitation totals and other fire data compiled by forestry officials in the state Agriculture, Food and Forestry Department. The agency recommended the ban be modified, citing the significant rainfall last weekend, but urged Oklahomans not to burn outside when winds are higher than 15 mph.
"Even with the rainfall we have received, it is important for all Oklahomans to exercise caution and good common sense when it comes to outdoor burning, particularly when winds are gusty," Henry said. "I will not hesitate to reinstate the ban if conditions warrant it."
