Planning a vacation this summer that involves driving your vehicle?

Strike it rich in the stock market, win the lottery, or inherit a fortune so you can pay for the fuel?

Well, if any of those are true, you would be best advised to take a little time now for vehicle maintenance.

Those miles per gallon in fuel efficiency can save you lots of bucks these days.

April is National Car Care Month, and the folks at the Car Care Council say this is "a good time to take control of your gas expenses.”

We're paying almost $1 per gallon more than we did a year ago at this time, according to industry numbers.

The council says simple maintenance not only improves your vehicle's safety and dependability, it can save you as much as $1,200 (or more, if the oil companies continue to raise the prices) per year in gas money.

A survey by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association found that 75 percent of the driving public said it was maintaining its vehicles better because of rising gas prices.
