Bob Stoops confirmed the speculated transfer of former Texas Tech quarterback Baker Mayfield on Wednesday.

Mayfield, who started seven games for the Red Raiders last season as a freshman walk-on, is currently enrolled and will also not be on scholarship at OU.

“I met him for the first time at a team meal last night,” Stoops said. “He came up and introduced himself. I said, ‘you didn’t even call me. I didn’t know you were even coming.’ He laughed about it, said he always wanted to be here. So we’ll give him that opportunity.”

Last season, the Austin (Lake Travis) native completed 64.1 percent of his pass attempts for 2,315 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
