MARION, Ala. (AP) — A physician who practiced medicine and taught in Birmingham is now part of the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame.

Dr. Hazel Mansell Gore was recently inducted into the hall, which is located at Judson College in Marion.

Gore practiced medicine and taught obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham before her death in 2001.

A native of Australia, she worked there as a doctor before moving to New York in 1951. She became an assistant in pathology at Harvard University's medical school before being recruited to work at UAB.

Gore has previously been honored for her work in the field of gynecologic pathology.

A plaque honoring Gore is on permanent display at the all-female college in Perry County.
