Everything from skateboards to shoes found in emptied Bricktown Canal
Crews in Oklahoma City are cleaning the Bricktown Canal for the first time since 2008. Workers found shoes, skateboards, traffic cones, wallets, purses, fish, chairs and other items in the muck at the bottom of the canal.
If you lost a shoe in the Bricktown Canal in the past four years, now would be a good time to get it back as long as you don't mind crawling around in black sludge.

Crews began scraping the bottom of the canal Wednesday as they worked to clean it for the first time since 2008. They began draining the canal Tuesday and plan to refill it by the weekend before Valentine's Day, said Jennifer McClintock, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
A thick coat of black muck was on the bottom of the canal Wednesday after the last of the water drained into the city sewage system. Shoes — mostly single and mostly women's — were among the more common items found amid the sludge.
“I can only imagine how those get in there,” McClintock said.
Other items included a Pacific Coast League-branded baseball that apparently came from an Oklahoma City RedHawks' game, clothes, chairs, shopping carts, skateboards, traffic cones, wallets, keys and cellphones.
