Five area Girl Scouts receive Gold Award
The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, was presented to five metro-area girls during a ceremony April 17.
The Gold Award signifies outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning or personal development. Recipients must fulfill various requirements and spend a minimum of 80 hours identifying and investigating an issue, building a team, creating a plan and taking action. The recipients and their projects are:• Kathryn Francis, of Moore, hosted a one-mile walk and health fair to combat childhood obesity. The children received a sticker and healthy snack. They were given information about healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices, and were asked to pick fun exercise routines.
• Emily Schwind, of Oklahoma City, supplied Lake Thunderbird State Park with 24 birdhouses and four birdfeeders.
