A former Oklahoma City Sprint employee who is Muslim is asking for an apology and a policy revision from Sprint after a claim of being fired for hanging up the phone on an abusive caller.

The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the employee wants Sprint to change its policy that states employees are not allowed to hang up on customers.

The former customer service employee, who was not named, alleges termination without notice a week after receiving a hate call, said Razi Hashmi, executive director of the state chapter of the council, a Muslim civil liberties group. Hashmi said the employee answered a call Sept. 26. When the caller learned the Sprint representative was Muslim, he allegedly told the employee, "Well, I don’t want to talk to you, and you can go to hell.” The employee hung up and reported the incident to a supervisor, Hashmi said.

The employee is not asking to be reinstated, Hashmi said, but just wants "to make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else ... it is unconscionable for Sprint to fire an employee merely for reacting as anyone would who received a hate call.”

The employee has started filing a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, he said.

Sprint public affairs manager John Taylor said the company’s policy is not to comment about former employees.

Taylor said in the interest of customers and employees and because Sprint doesn’t want employees to have to deal with uncomfortable situations, the company trains call center employees to never hang up on a customer but to transfer the customer to a supervisor.

As a Sprint customer, I'm THRILLED they canned this jerk. If he's running to all the liberal control centers like the EEOC and CAIR, he isn't much of a Muslim anyway.

This former employee wants Sprint to change their policy so employees can hang up on customers?

Why do Muslims seek help from CAIR anyway? Thisnational organization was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas Terror Funding Trial. Hellooooo????

How can we forget that it was Razi Hashmi, himself, who was quoted in a January article in this very newspaper: "America should take immediate steps to end Israel’s "illegal and immoral” offensive against the Gaza Strip Hamas rulers, the executive director of the Oklahoma City chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Monday.

Hamas rulers?

Working people are always held to significantly higher standards to the people who run the world. The financial companies destroyed the world economy, and they get big bonuses and appointments. This guy does what any sane person would do, and he gets canned. Pretty pathetic.
