Icy weather freezes real estate construction in Oklahoma

Ice sent already cooled housing to the deep freeze.

"Construction progress isn’t the only thing that freezes in weather like this, as deliveries are halted, too,” said Jeff Click, president of the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association. "Homes nearing completion can still be worked on inside, so long as trades can make it safely to the site.

"Most in this business have the proverbial 4x4, which can get them to work, but most also have kids who are likely not (in) school, which often keeps them home.”

For Realtors, it will almost be like Tuesday, maybe today, never happened, said Ryan Hukill of ParadigmAdvantEdge Real Estate.

"For me, this weather has resulted in the postponing of home showings for three buyer clients, postponing of the photography of two new listings, and postponing of three meetings with various business associates,” he said. "There are some positives to being iced-in, but it certainly sets my productivity behind.”

Doing paperwork
Commercial property brokers also found less-than-thrilling things to do, said Brent Conway, office specialist with CB Richard Ellis-Oklahoma.

"It’s a great time to work on paperwork that would otherwise be pushed to the back burner,” he said.
