Tony Blair’s wife to speak
Cherie Blair, a human rights lawyer in the United Kingdom and the wife of former United Kingdom Prime Minister
Tony Blair, will speak at the Oklahoma
Bar Association’s
Women in
Law Conference today
at the
Skirvin Hilton Hotel. Blair is
expected to speak about international human rights for women and children. The association
also will honor five female lawyers with the Mona Salyer Lambird Spotlight Award. The award recipients are
Deirdre O. Dexter,
Tulsa; Imogene
Harris, Tulsa;
Carol Ann Hubbard,
Oklahoma City; and
G. Gail Stricklin, Oklahoma City. The association also posthumously will honor Sally Mock, Oklahoma City.

Agencies join abuse study
Eight Oklahoma law enforcement agencies are taking part in a study into the likelihood of domestic violence homicides.
Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board co-founder
Janet Sullivan-Wilson said Okla-homa typically ranks about fourth in the nation in the number of domestic violence homicides. Participating agencies include police departments in Tulsa, Oklahoma City,
Broken Arrow,
El Reno,
Stillwater and
Tahlequah, the
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the
Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.

Ban on bags considered
A proposed
ordinance banning
plastic bags and polystyrene cups in
Enid may have legs with the Enid City
Commission. City commissioners heard a presentation on Tuesday.
Mayor John Criner thinks there is support among commissioners. Criner said he likes the idea, but
as a former retailer believes reusable bags may present
a problem.
