OKC RedHawks: Hawks move closer to division-leading Albuquerque with 11-0 rout at the Brick
Oklahoma City now 21/2 games behind with five games remaining in regular season. Mike Hessman cranks 33{+r}{+d} homer of the season.
The Oklahoma City RedHawks continued to creep closer to South division-leading Albuquerque on Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Mike Hessman and Angel Sanchez hit home runs to help the RedHawks to an 11-0 Pacific Coast League baseball rout before 2,946 fans. The victory was the RedHawks' fourth straight and moved them within 21/2 games of first place.
Division champions are the only teams that advance to the PCL playoffs. Oklahoma City (74-64) has five games remaining in the regular season — Thursday's 7:05 p.m. game against the Isotopes, and then four home games against last-place Round Rock (67-72). After Thursday's game, Albuquerque (77-62) returns home to play four games against North division champion Omaha (82-57).
Hessman's fourth-inning homer was his league-best 33rd. Sanchez's fifth homer of the season, a three-run shot, came during the RedHawks' five-run sixth inning.
Oklahoma City starting pitcher Edgar Gonzalez was superb. He gave up four hits and no walks in seven innings. Gonzalez struck out six.
