The Oklahoman Fashion Editor Linda Miller recently chatted with Norman fashion designer Sherri Hill, who has been getting more name recognition lately.
Hill has been a big talent in the prom and pageant worlds since the mid-1990s, but she has been dressing more celebrities lately. Country music star Miranda Lambert, who lives in Tishomingo, wore four of Hill’s designs at the November Country Music Association Awards, where the firebrand singer-songwriter was the belle of the ball.
Checotah native Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift also have donned Hill’s designs.
Reality TV star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” told Hill she earned her first positive fashion review for one of the Oklahoman’s designs.
According to Linda, Hill will likely have a gown or two on the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, airing at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC.
“Probably for the Globes,” Hill told Linda. “I doubt if we do the Oscars. Next year we’ll be setting up a room. I don’t think we’re there yet. I don’t think we’re at that level. We may luck out, but we’re not aggressively pursuing it.”
Two years ago, after more than a decade of designing for a New York company, Hill went back out on her own and established her company right here in her home state. It’s great to have such a wonderful home-grown talent setting up shop here.
