Oklahoma State billionaire booster T. Boone Pickens took time out to write former OSU golfer Rickie Fowler a handwritten letter for some kind words the British Open runner-up said on TV.
Fowler called Pickens his “good friend” in a recent CNBC interview, and Pickens responded with this letter, saying he was following Fowler’s chase of the Claret Jug last weekend. Fowler finished in a tie with Sergio Garcia for second place, two shots behind winner Rory McIlroy.
The letter reads: “Rickie, British Open! You were superb. I watched it all and you played like a champion. Everybody loves you. Your friend, Boone.”

Fowler was a guest on CNBC’s Squawk Sports segment, discussing his new “Play 9 Day” initiative to get golfers back on the course. During the interview, Fowler was asked about getting financial advice and his relationship with Pickens.
“It’s really cool to be able to call Mr. Pickens a good friend,” Fowler said. “I get to sit with him, usually spend time with him in the football season, sit in the suite. He’s usually back for the Cowboy Pro Am – which is a fundraiser for the golf team at OSU we have every September.
“To have a guy like that that has helped out the golf program along with the athletics, and the academics side at Oklahoma State is really special. To be able to call him a friend is even better.”
